The Daniel Omari Smith Trust plaque unveiling ceremony
The College of North West London

The family and my colleagues at the Trust would like to express our gratitude to Diana, Faith, Nadia and the College of North West London, for making our dream, of keeping Daniel's memory alive, a reality. Thank you.

On the 16th March 2023 a plaque was unveiled to honour Daniel's memory and to highlight the ongoing work of the Trust set up in his name.

"Daniel was an ambitious and outstanding young man, he did not like the idea of going to University, and instead chose a vocational study and decided on an apprenticeship in Electrical Installation, which he thoroughly enjoyed and could not wait to complete the course. He often talked about he tutor here at the college, Mervin Ross, who he said impacted very much on his life. He also talk about perhaps doing an additional course in plumbing when he completed his study.

Daniel was very determined and would encourage his sister, who wanted to become an architect to pursue her dream and together they could design and build their mum the perfect home. Sadly, now that will not be possible.

Daniel after a hard days work would come home and boast of having working mans' hands, feeling proud of the work he had done and the attention he got that day.

I would like to encourage all the students here today, TO STRIVE TO REACH YOUR FULL POTENTIAL...you can achieve whatever you want and don't allow anyone to tell you otherwise.

NEVER GIVE UP, let your spark ignite your passion and reach for the stars.

Daniel was my inspiration when things became somewhat challenging, encouraging me, he would say, "WE CAN DO IT".

Today, I am very proud of this amazing plaque the college have erected in Daniel's honour and we the Trust will do whatever we can to assist the amazing students here at the college to realise their dreams.

Students: Dare to dream,  Dream can come true!"

Tim Smith's 50 Mile Cycle Ride
Cheltenham/Cotswolds

A message from Tim:

"A BIG THANK YOU to all those who sponsored me for my 50 miles Cotswold cycle ride. I could not have asked for a better day, as it was sunny, with a slight breeze . . . perfect for cycling. It was tough going at times as the course was quite hilly. However, got there in the end, with tired legs and a very sore bum. To-date I have managed to raise just over £200.00 for the Trust. Again, really appreciate your support. Thanks Tim"

“The Major Series is a tough, muddy, hilly 5k (ish) run littered with obstacles, taking place around the country in 2012. The Major's troops have been stationed all around the course to pull participants out of bogs, push them down slides and encourage them over the jumps and other surprise obstacles he has in store for you! You can guarantee that it will be one of the toughest runs any of us have ever done, but you can also guarantee that we'll finish with a huge smile on our faces and we'll feel massively proud of ourselves!” - www.majorseries.com

LONDON MARATHON

"I took part in the Virgin London Marathon on 22nd April 2012 in memory of Daniel. I chose to run and fundraise for the 'Crimestoppers' charity, who have helped Daniel's family through a very difficult time.

Having completed a few 5k runs in the past, I found a 26.2 mile course to be a huge fitness test and personal challenge for me, but one I found was extremely worthwhile. I finished the marathon in a time of 5hrs 50mins and 40secs. I had amazing support on the day from friends and family, and the entire experience was one that I'll never forget."
